It’d be interesting to see if Google started doing this, I think it’s potentially a very risk move.
If you’re unsure what Google +1 is, it’s Google’s version of Facebook’s popular like button. Here is what Google has to say about it:
The +1 button is shorthand for “this is pretty cool” or “you should check this out.”
Click +1 to publicly give something your stamp of approval. Your +1′s can help friends, contacts, and others on the web find the best stuff when they search.
On the 30th of March Google announced Google +1. Essentially it’s a Facebook Like button for search, ads and all sorts of other content. Initially it’s only going to be available on search results, but will move to other content (and external websites) soon after.
Although initially it will be a way for you to see which search results your friends have +1′d, and will only affect those who are logged in, it wouldn’t suprise me if Google eventually started building the number of +1′s into their search results.
I’m betting there are some unscrupulous search engine marketers out there right now, trying to create as many google accounts as possible.
